J. Slater & Son acquisitionCavendish Upholstery, part of the Airsprung Group PLC, has been on the acquisition trail bringing a new company under the Cavendish banner. Sales Director Mark McCann explains: “The recession may have started for most industries at the end of last year, but we had been experiencing tough trading conditions from the early part of 2008. Our strategy was to look to the home market for solutions, not from the far-east, as the cost of importing and stocking was becoming prohibitive. Value for money in good quality soft cover designs was the strategic decision. We also realised that in difficult times smaller companies would struggle to maintain sales and would therefore be looking to sell or merge with larger businesses. With Cavendish holding a strong mid-market position, we felt that we could accommodate entry level and the high end sectors of the market within our marketing strategy. The acquisition of J. Slater and son, has added an established brand with over 25 years trading based in Lancashire not far from Cavendish, it employs the traditional construction method of all hardwood frames, dowelled screwed and glued with full mesh top coil seat springing. A bespoke service is offered with any model made to order in any size, in the fabric of the customers choosing. We have retained all of the highly skilled workforce at their original premises and with the backing of the Cavendish design and development team they will be launching the 'Sofa Gallery' concept to the market this Autumn.” |
